Associate, Cultural Landscape Architect and Heritage Specialist

Ms Liana Jansen

Mrs Liana  Jansen PrLArch #20156 (SACLAP 2003), PHP (APHP 2015), MA Anthropology (Unisa 2009), BL (2000) is a registered professional Landscape Architect and an accredited Professional Heritage Practitioner with 15 years experience in the design, planning and conservation of landscapes. She acted as a lecturer and Programme Convenor in both the University of Pretoria and University of Cape Town Landscape Architecture and Architecture programmes. A Masters degree in anthropology provided her skills in understanding various cultures and their relationship with landscapes. She is actively involved in the heritage field, completing heritage audits, management plans and designs for cultural landscapes across Southern Africa and internationally. Liana is currently Director of Cape Winelands Professional Practices in Association, who has been tasked to develop a Heritage Inventory and Conservation Management Plan for the Stellenbosch Cultural Landscape. She acts as an external examiner for final year Masters in Landscape Architecture programmes at the Universities of Cape Town and Pretoria. Liana is the ICOMOS Vice President Africa of the International Scientific Committee for Cultural Landscapes and an expert member of the ICOMOS International Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage. She is an active evaluator of nominated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. She co-edited the book “Engraved Landscape: Biesje Poort: Many Voices” and co-edited the South African Landscape Architecture Compendium and Reader. She also published a chapter in the book “Rural Resistance in South Africa: The Mpondo Revolts after Fifty Years” edited by Thembela Kepe and Lungisile Ntsebeza.
